What are the benefits of having a birth doula?Studies have shown that having a doula decreases the overall cesarean rate by 50%, the length of labor by 25%, the use of oxytocin by 40%, and requests for an epidural by 60%. Mothers with a doula are more likely to rate their childbirth experience positively.
-
What kinds of techniques do doulas provide to reduce stress and anxiety during labor?Doulas offer a wide array of techniques or comfort measures. I like to use counter pressure, light touch massage, body massage, affirmations and more! Contact me for more information on the specifics of what I offer and how I differ from other doulas.
-
Why do you need a doula when you have a partner?Whether it's a romantic partner, spouse, or family member, your birth partner's experience and role matters in birth. Doulas are present to support every partner in being as involved as they’d like with the birth. Physical and emotional support make a huge difference for everyone involved, and can help the birth partner feel more confident, and in turn can help you feel more confident.
-
What is the difference between a midwife and a doula?A midwife is a health care provider, while a doula is more like a childbirth coach.
-
Are doulas only for unmedicated or "natural" births or at home? "No. I support all births - unmedicated, medicated, cesarean and beyond. I attend births at hospitals, birthing centers, and at home. Every birth is unique and requires different areas of support.
* A $400.00 deposit is due in order to book my services. The remainder is due at 37 weeks when I go on call for your birth. Payment plans considered upon request; Invoicing for HSA/FSA available; Partial trades also considered.
